Current Information:On 6th October, 1916, the 4th Middlesex battalion of 63 Brigade, 37th Division, moved into the front line at Souchez near Arras. On 7th October, the day on which Eric Binns was killed, the enemy was active with their heavy trench mortars, minenwerfers or ‘minnies’ and there were a number of casualties for the battalion especially among one of their Stokes mortar teams.
